Treatment of Vascular Lesions
The target chromophore for the treatment of vascular lesions is hemoglobin. The IPL light pulse is absorbed in the dark-red, oxygen-rich blood of the vessel by the haemoglobin and converted into heat.
This heat clots the blood and “welds” the vessel shut. The body’s lymphatic system breaks down the coagulated blood into its constituent parts and the body transports it away naturally leaving a more radiant clear skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
Before Treatment
Tanning of the skin may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment, try to avoid sun or sun bed exposure to the area of the skin to be treated and use strong sun blocks (factors 15 and upwards) when you skin is exposed to sunlight. Make-up or camouflage may block out the I.P.L. light, it is advised to remove this thoroughly before treatment.
Post Treatment
The treated areas should be treated carefully until the skin has had time to fully heal. Avoid any injury, rubbing or scratching and leave any scab to separate normally. The treated area will be sensitive to the effects of sunlight and sun-beds and should be covered or protected with high factor sun screens (factor 20 and over) for a period of 2-3 months following treatment. There is no need to restrict any activity if this advice is followed.
